Right of Abode is a form of residence status conferred on a person who meets the following criteria; a Ghanaian by birth, adoption, registration or naturalization within the meaning of the Citizenship Act who by reason of his acquisition of a foreign nationality has lost his Ghanaian citizenship; and a person of African descent in the Diaspora. The Minister may on an application and with the approval of the President grant the status of Right of Abode. This grants the holder the right to reside permanently in Ghana, enter Ghana without visa, work or be employed without a work permit.
REQUIREMENTS FOR GHANAIAN DESCENTS
a) Completed application form
b) Two (2) current passport-size photographs
c) Letter of application from sponsor/applicant
d) Attestation letter by two (2) Ghanaians who are either Notaries Public, Lawyers, Senior public officers with copies of their national ID.
e) Photocopy of applicant’s passport (bio-data and current residence permit pages)
f) Evidence of immovable properties (indenture, site plan etc. where applicable)
g) Renunciation certificate
h) Auto-biography
i) Birth certificate.
j) Current Police clearance from Ghana
k) Non-citizen I.D card
AFRICANS IN DIASPORA
a) Completed application form
b) Application letter from sponsor/company
c) Attestation in writing from two Ghanaians of repute (Notaries Public, Lawyers, Senior public officers) with copies of their national ID.
d) Evidence of contribution to Ghanaian economic development in terms of monetary value of shares, bank statement, audited account, provision of employment to Ghanaians etc.
e) Current police report from Ghana
f) Photocopy of applicant’s non- citizen I.D card.
g) Company’s Documents (Companies Code, audited account (for the past three (3) years), SSNIT returns of Ghanaian employees, Tax Clearance Certificate (personal & company) for the past six (6) years.
i) Medical Report (Ghana Immigration Service Clinic)
